The fire started at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The fire department responded quickly, but at 10 p.m. it was still burning.
The fire department is spraying cold water on houses in the city, writes NRK.
It's to prevent radiant heat. It gets very hot and it's windy, so embers form, says Sindre Kongshaug, on duty at the alarm center, to NRK.
There is a strong wind blowing, which is expected to subside by midnight. However, according to rescue personnel, it looks like the fire will not die down in the next few hours.
"This won't be over quickly. It's an ongoing operation that will probably continue for several more hours," says Kjartan Molvaer from Ålesund's rescue service.
