The richness of species continues to grow on the artificial island Pepparholm, which was created by dredged soil when the Öresund Bridge was built.

This year, when the bronze 25-year anniversary is celebrated, twelve new plant species have been added and the number of breeding birds has been record large.

"The nature on Pepparholm develops and surprises us every year", says Öresundsbron's environmental specialist Hans Ohrt in a press release.

Among the new plants are the rare shrub curryeternell, as well as almond flower, Baltic marviol, hybrid forsythia and bolivia cinquefoil. Among the new bird species that have bred on Pepparholm are, among others, the serin and the whinchat.

The development is being followed in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen and a Danish botanical association.
