Turkish refineries have begun cutting their purchases of Russian crude oil following the Trump administration's new sanctions against Russian oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil.

Refineries Turkiye Petrol Rafineleri and Star Rafineri are now looking for additional crude oil supplies from countries such as Iraq, Libya, Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan, Bloomberg reports, citing anonymous sources.

Turkey is the third largest recipient of Russian crude oil exports after China and India.

However, completely ceasing imports of Russian crude oil is not possible for Turkey, according to Bloomberg's sources, who also do not want to say anything about how large a proportion of Russian oil can or should now be replaced by other oil.

Russian-flagged crude oil tankers are still heading to Turkish ports as buyers have until November 21 to end deals with the Russian oil giants under Trump administration sanctions.
