The man has played a central role in a criminal network in western Sweden. In 2022, he was sentenced by the Court of Appeal to five years and nine months in prison for four counts of preparation for murder.
"The message to gang criminals hiding abroad is clear: there is nowhere you can hide, nowhere you can feel safe and nowhere we cannot reach you," says Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer (M) in a written comment to TT.
He also thanks the Swedish police and the Turkish authorities for their good cooperation.
The district court acquitted the man of the most serious charges, and he was then released from custody. When the hearings in the Court of Appeal began in January 2022, it was discovered that the man was no longer in Sweden, and he was then wanted via Interpol.
The man was arrested in Turkey in 2024 and landed on Swedish soil on July 21 this year.
"We would like to thank our Turkish colleagues for their excellent work," says Jonas Hemmar, deputy head of the international unit at Noa, in a statement on the police website.
Gunnar Strömmer says that the government and Swedish authorities continue to cooperate with other countries "so that prominent criminal actors who are abroad are arrested, prosecuted and their assets are confiscated."
