The discovery of the mineral tungsten confirmed earlier findings of rare earth metals and copper in eastern Småland.
”The high content of tungsten constitutes a new discovery that has not been encountered before, which creates new opportunities in research and prospecting,” reads parts of the motivation from SGU (Sweden's Geological Survey).
The second prize goes to Niklas Söllvander, for a find from a slag heap from an old iron ore mine in Östhammar municipality, which showed a high gold content. The third prize goes to Göran Eliasson for having found elevated levels of copper and gold in Ljusdal municipality.
The winners will be rewarded in conjunction with a ceremony at SGU's headquarters in Uppsala on Wednesday.
