Trang, who is a publicist and author, is awarded the prize for "her devoted writing and her tireless struggle for freedom of speech and democracy in Vietnam", writes the press freedom organization.
The prize is awarded by Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand (The Moderate Party) on "Imprisoned Authors' Day" on November 15 in connection with a ceremony at Bonniers konsthall.
In 2019, Trang was involved in founding the Vietnamese publishing house "Liberal publishing house" together with a group of activists. The purpose of the publishing house was to spread and publish books free from the regime's censorship.
In October 2020, she was arrested by the police. She was sentenced to nine years in prison for "propaganda against the Socialist Republic of Vietnam", the verdict was appealed but dismissed by the Supreme Court in Hanoi in 2022.
The Tucholsky Prize is a freedom of speech prize of 150,000 kronor.
