The White House and the US Department of Homeland Security are using memes about the video game "Halo" to recruit young men, according to The Guardian, among others.

A couple of days after Microsoft announced the upcoming game "Halo: Campaign evolved," the White House shared an AI-generated meme featuring US President Donald Trump as the main character Master Chief from "Halo," in front of an American flag.

On Monday, the Department of Homeland Security shared a post on X with an image from “Halo” and a link to join ICE – the US immigration agency. ICE is responsible for the widespread detention and deportation of migrants and the agency has been criticized for brutal working methods under the Trump administration.

The move could be seen as part of Donald Trump's strategy to target "disaffected young men" who are often gamers, but many of the game's fans have expressed anger, according to NME .

“Don’t use the game I grew up with to push your shitty politics,” one fan wrote. Another called the post “fascist ideology.”

Former “Halo” composer (and Republican congressional candidate) Marty O'Donnell instead showed his support for X.
