Trump's promised tariff blitz has made the world's stock exchanges fluctuate, and early on Wednesday morning Swedish time, even more tariffs came into effect.
The new wave of tariffs is added to the 10 percent that came into effect on April 2, the day Trump himself in a fiery speech called "Liberation Day". Then it applied to almost all countries in the world – now around 60 countries are getting additional fees.
During a dinner with other Republicans, Trump claimed on Tuesday evening that countries are eager to reach an agreement.
I'm telling you, these countries are calling us and kissing my behind, he said according to AFP.
China is hit the hardest. After initially increasing tariffs against the country by 34 percent, Beijing responded with equally large retaliatory tariffs – whereupon Trump added another 50 percent.
Beijing has promised to fight a trade war "to the end", with countermeasures to defend its interests.
The turbulence has made Asia's leading stock exchanges fall in early Wednesday trading.
