In the middle of August, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin met in Alaska to discuss how the war in Ukraine can be ended.
Then, no decision was made and a new meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin may have been postponed indefinitely since a preliminary meeting between their respective foreign ministers, Marco Rubio and Sergey Lavrov, was postponed, reports CNN.
The reason is unclear, but according to sources, the parties have different views on how the war in Ukraine should be ended.
President Trump has consistently worked to find a peaceful and diplomatic solution to put an end to this meaningless war and to stop the killing, says the White House's deputy press secretary Anna Kelly to CNN.
The Kremlin describes the conversation between Rubio and Lavrov as "constructive", but according to CNN, Russia's stance is unchanged.
It is unclear whether this will affect the planned summit in Budapest, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj has also said he wants to attend – if he is invited.
