US President Donald Trump announced in a post on Truth Social addressed to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney that he is withdrawing his invitation to Canada to join his "peace council."

"Please consider this letter as notice that the Peace Council is withdrawing its invitation to you to participate in what will be the most prestigious council of leaders ever assembled," Trump wrote in the post.

Carney drew international attention this week when he declared the old U.S.-led world order dead. His government has also said it will not pay to join the Peace Council.

The Peace Council is expected to be led by Donald Trump himself, who has lifelong membership and veto power over all decisions.

The list of invitees is long and includes some 60 countries. At a ceremony in Davos on Thursday, representatives of some 20 countries signed the council's declaration of intent. Sweden is among the countries that have more or less refused to join.

Trump threatened France with 200 percent tariffs on wine and champagne after France refused.
