The American president writes on Truth Social that the United States will, "to the best of its ability," help "vessels and crews safely exit the strait."

He adds that these are ships from countries around the world, "most of which are not involved in the Middle East conflict."

Trump also states that the United States is holding constructive talks with Iran that "could lead to something very positive for everyone."

He adds that the attempts to restart shipping in the region are "a humanitarian gesture" from the United States and countries in the Middle East - "and especially Iran."

The reports of positive talks between Iran and the US come after Trump has spoken negatively about new negotiation proposals from Iran in recent days.

Earlier on Sunday, Iran's Revolutionary Guard countered that the United States faces either an "impossible" military operation in Iran or "a bad deal" with the country in the war.

The latest Iranian proposal, submitted to mediator Pakistan, reportedly consists of 14 points. These include demands that the war be formally ended within 30 days, that the United States commit not to carry out any new attacks on Iran, and that the US compensate Iran financially for damages caused by the war.

The war began on February 28 when the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran. Tehran responded with attacks in the region, including on US military bases and targets in Israel, and by cutting off traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US, in turn, has imposed a blockade of Iranian ports.
