According to the president, the attack took place last week.
"They have a big factory or facility where the ships come from. Two days ago we knocked it out, so we hit them very hard," Trump said in an interview with conservative radio station WABC, according to CNN.
The interview, which was conducted on Friday and aired on Monday, revolved around Washington's escalation toward Caracas, expressed through attacks on alleged "drug boats" and seized oil tankers, among other things.
When Trump received Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, he was asked about the alleged attack.
"There was a big explosion at the port area where they load the boats with drugs. They load the boats with drugs, so we hit all the boats and the area," Trump said, according to the AP.
He would not comment on where the attack took place or whether it was carried out by the US military or the CIA.
Trump has previously stated that he "does not rule out" a war between the United States and Venezuela.
