Trump Threatens Higher Canada Tariffs Over Wildfire Smoke Crossing Border

US President Donald Trump is threatening to raise tariffs on Canada, citing what he calls "dirty, polluted and unhealthy" smoke billowing across the border.

"We hold Canada accountable for the fact that they are not managing their forests properly," Trump writes on Truth Social, calling it "unacceptable."

Trump demands answers from Canada about what it plans to do about the problem. The cost of pollution in the United States every year will be added on top of the tariffs that Canada pays, he says.

Canada, in turn, emphasises the shared responsibility for fighting fires, writes Politico.

Wildfires in Canada have worsened in recent days, sending smoke across the border. More than 200 fires are burning out of control in Ontario province. World Cup organisers have expressed concern ahead of Sunday's final match between Spain and Argentina in New York.
