The video was played for a "short moment" on Monday for employees at the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). According to The New York Times, hackers had managed to take over screens around the building.
The incident occurred on the same day as Musk's alleged deadline for government employees to report their work performances in an email.
A spokesperson for HUD says that the incident constitutes "misuse of taxpayers' resources". The department is now planning to investigate and dismiss those deemed responsible.
Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters, who chairs the House Financial Services Committee, praises the creators of the video on X.
"Not all heroes wear capes," she writes.
