Trump has taken on the role of chairman of the board for the center, as part of what he has described as a national war against "woke". On Monday, he made his first visit in his new role.
During the tour, he described the center's art facilities as "expensive rooms that no one will use".
He also commented on the decision by "Hamilton" musical producer Jeffrey Seller to cancel an upcoming guest performance. The musical producer does not want to comply with "the new culture being imposed on the center".
I've never particularly liked "Hamilton", said Donald Trump during the visit, promising some "really good shows".
The first board meeting took place on the center's opera stage. The board, whose members are usually prominent cultural figures from Washington, now includes Donald Trump's chief of staff Susie Wiles and Vice President JD Vance's wife.
