Just over a week after threatening Iran with "the biggest attack since World War II," he tells the news site Axios that the US is now only "partially negotiating" and, rather than engaging in active warfare, is trying to wait Iran out.
"We're just looking at their high inflation and the fact that they have no money," he says.
He says he is not concerned about the high oil price and claims that consumers no longer feel it as much.
"It will work out. It always works out, it's like a game of chess," he says.
The interview was published a few hours after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the Gaza plan praised by Trump, a topic not addressed in the published text.
