Kharg, an important island for Iran's oil industry, has been repeatedly singled out as a target for possible US ground operations in the ongoing war. According to sources including the Washington Post, the US has far-reaching plans for raids on the Strait of Hormuz and the island of Kharg.

Later, in front of reporters on Air Force One, the American president also claimed that he had achieved "regime change" in Iran and referred to the killing of several Iranian leaders in attacks.
