The US has paused its attacks on Iran after a direct appeal from Iran, the US president claims.
They asked us very nicely, "please stop," Trump said aboard Air Force One, adding:
If we don't reach an agreement, we will return to attacking.
Earlier on Monday, Trump told the news site Axios that he decided on Friday to call off the strikes against Iran after mediators asked him to give diplomacy a chance.
Iran, on the other hand, is playing down talk of talks.
"Mediators are conveying messages from the American side. But at the moment we are not involved in negotiations with the United States," said Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry.
