Iran and the United States are exchanging renewed threats after a bloody wave of protests in the country. "If something happens, the whole country will be blown up," said Donald Trump.

The U.S. president reacts in a television interview to statements by Iranian officials that are interpreted as death threats directed at him.

"My instructions are clear. If anything happens, they will be wiped off the face of the earth," he answers a question from a Newsmax reporter.

Iran's foreign minister counters in an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal that the U.S. should beware. Abbas Araghchi writes that Iran's regime "showed restraint" in the war against Israel and the U.S. this summer, but that the country's armed forces now "have no qualms about firing back with everything we have if we are attacked again."
