The US president told reporters outside the White House on Friday that he is not satisfied with what Iran has agreed to so far in the ongoing negotiations, that he has not decided whether an attack is the best way forward and that "we'll see what happens."
Speaking in Corpus Christi, Texas, Trump said, according to the AFP news agency, that he does not want to see Iran gain access to any form of highly enriched uranium, regardless of its use.
They say they want it for civilian use (nuclear power). I think that's uncivilized.
And according to the mediating country Oman's Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi, he can get his way. Badr al-Busaidi tells American CBS News that Iran has "agreed in a breakthrough not to stockpile highly enriched uranium, not even for nuclear power."
"This is something completely new. It makes highly enriched uranium less relevant in the negotiations because now we are talking about zero stockpiling," he says.
The US accuses Iran of accumulating highly enriched uranium to produce nuclear weapons.
But if you don't stockpile highly enriched material, there is no way to manufacture nuclear weapons, says Badr al-Busaidi.
It remains to be seen whether the statement is accurate or if it is enough to appease Donald Trump. On his way to his helicopter for his onward journey to Texas, Trump said of the option of attacking Iran:
I don't want to, but sometimes you have to.
