Trump says American woman detained in Iran has left the country

An American citizen whom President Donald Trump said had been “wrongly” imprisoned in Iran since December 2024 has left the country, he said. Iran denies the reports.

"She is now safe outside of Iran, and doing well. The United States appreciates this act of goodwill from Iran," the president wrote on Truth Social on Thursday night without giving any further details.

On Thursday evening, the Iranian judiciary denied Trump's claim that she had been released. No imprisoned American has been released or exchanged, according to Iran, Reuters writes on its website.

The woman is a citizen of both Iran and the United States. According to information provided to the New York Times, the woman was stripped of her American passport and denied entry into Iran.

She has been accused of collaborating with a "hostile state" and espionage, her lawyer said, according to AFP.
