Iran allowed eight "large oil tankers" to transit the waterway earlier this week and then sweetened the offer with two more ships, Trump announced at Thursday's cabinet meeting.
The ships are reported to have sailed under the Pakistani flag, and the president described it as a benevolent gesture by Iran.
"I guess we're dealing with the right people," Trump said.
Trump said Tuesday that the United States had received “a very big gift, worth a huge amount of money” from Iran. The statement came during a press conference when he was asked about alleged negotiations with Iran.
