Despite slogans at home in the USA about "no kings" Donald Trump lets himself be dazzled by royal splendor in Asia. I will put it on directly, said the president, when he was given an ancient royal crown as a gift in South Korea.

It was indeed only a replica, thus an expensive copy, of the old crown that the US President was awarded during the visit to Gyeongju, the city that was once the capital of the Silla kingdom.

It is a great honor, said Trump when presidential colleague Lee Jae-Myung handed over the crown.

The American's weakness for gold is well known, and when he earlier in the week visited Japan, the 79-year-old received gold-plated golf balls.

However, royalty is a sensitive issue at home in the USA. Many think that Trump is trying to act like an absolute king, and large demonstrations under the slogan "no kings" have been held.

Silla was a kingdom in the southeastern parts of present-day South Korea for about a millennium until the year 935.
