Trump Questions Putin's Commitment to Peace Talks

Russia is ready to hold peace talks with Ukraine "without preconditions", the Kremlin reports on Saturday. But from an American perspective, one doubts the intentions. On social media, USA's President Donald Trump changes his tone towards Russia's Vladimir Putin and asks himself if he really wants peace.

Russia's message about its willingness to negotiate was conveyed during a meeting with the US envoy Steve Witkoff on Friday.

During yesterday's conversation with Trump's envoy Witkoff, Vladimir Putin repeated that Russia is ready to resume negotiations with Ukraine without any preconditions, says Kremlin's spokesperson Dmitrij Peskov on Saturday.

But the US is not buying the message. On Saturday, Donald Trump writes that Putin does not seem to be interested in peace.

"There was no reason for Putin to shoot rockets into civilian areas, cities, and communities, in recent days. It makes me think that he may not want to stop the war, that he's just playing with me", he writes on his platform Truth Social.

The statement comes just a few hours after Trump expressed that Russia and Ukraine were "very close" to a peace agreement.

"Russia and Ukraine are very close to an agreement and the two sides should now meet at a very high level to finalize it", Trump wrote.
