In the photo, Trump, piously dressed in a white shirt and red robe, was seen placing his hand on the forehead of a sick man. In the background, Trump's supporters, the American flag and the Statue of Liberty were visible.
This prompted several conservative Christian activists and commentators to go on the offensive and, among other things, accuse Trump of blasphemy, reports The Hill.
Trump himself said it was "not a depiction" of Jesus.
"It would portray me as a doctor, making people feel better," Trump told reporters outside the White House.
The image, which Trump posted on Truth Social on Sunday, was deleted on Monday.
