Before Blanche can get the job, he must be approved by the Senate, where Republicans have a majority.

Blanche has faced fierce criticism from both Democrats and Republicans since he created a $1.8 billion fund to compensate Trump supporters who believe they have been wrongly investigated and prosecuted. However, on Wednesday, Blanche announced that he would not move forward with the fund.

Blanche took over the role of attorney general after Trump fired his representative, Pam Bondi, in April. He had also previously served as Trump's lawyer.
