"Jeanine was a powerful advocate for victims", writes the President on his social media platform. This with reference to the 73-year-old's time as a judge and district attorney in Westchester County in New York.
The appointment comes after Trump's earlier choice, defense attorney Ed Martin, met resistance in the Senate, which approves such posts. Martin, who has defended several of those accused of storming the Capitol on January 6, 2021, will instead get a top post at the Justice Department, Trump says.
Jeanine Pirro is the third program host from the conservative TV channel recruited by Trump. Defense Minister Pete Hegseth was previously the host of the "Fox & Friends Weekend" and Transportation Minister Sean Duffy has a past as a program host on Fox Business and participant in reality programs, notes AFP.
Pirro has previously, among other things, run for election to the Senate, without winning. She has been a program host on Fox News since 2011.
