Trump accuses Biden's advisors of covering up the predecessor's "cognitive decline" and claims that Biden used an automatic signing machine, also called an autopen, in an unauthorized manner.

The investigation, which was established through a presidential order on Wednesday night, means a clear escalation in terms of the Trump administration's efforts to drive processes against political opponents and can become a tool for Trump to use in order to try to portray a number of Biden's decisions as invalid.

Led by the Minister of Justice

"This conspiracy is one of the most dangerous and disturbing scandals in American history," says Trump in a statement.

A so-called autopen is a common tool for those who sign a lot of papers - not least presidents. Trump has previously claimed that Biden's pardons are not valid due to this tool, but analysts have pointed out that there is nothing in the US Constitution that prescribes that the President's pardons can be repealed, regardless of the choice of pen.

Minister of Justice Pam Bondi will have the main responsibility for the investigation together with David Warrington, advisor to the White House.

Condemned by Biden

Joe Biden condemns the accusations in a statement as "ridiculous" and "false" and continues:

"Let me be clear: I stood for the decisions during my time as president. I decided on pardons, presidential orders, legislation and announcements".
