An IndyCar race in downtown Washington, D.C., where the cars pass the White House at high speeds? It looks like it will become a reality this summer if U.S. President Donald Trump gets his way.

On Friday, Trump signed a presidential decree confirming that this year's IndyCar calendar includes a previously announced race weekend: August 21-23 in the capital, Washington, D.C. This is part of Trump's plans for a grand celebration of the 250th anniversary of America's independence.

"I love racing. I don't have a lot of time to watch, but I love racing," Trump said.

The idea is for the cars to pass famous landmarks in Washington, D.C., including along Pennsylvania Avenue and past the White House, at speeds over 300 kilometers per hour.

The presidential decree states that a track must be developed within 14 days.

Competing in the IndyCar series are, among others, Swedes Marcus Ericsson and Felix Rosenqvist.
