Trump implemented the decision in a decree, which has since been blocked by legal authorities.

The President's decree on attempting to revoke citizenship is blatantly in violation of the Constitution and, frankly, un-American, said California's Attorney General Rob Bonta, who was one of the sharpest critics.

Federal courts in the states of Maryland, Massachusetts, and Washington deemed the decree to be in breach of the US Constitution and an amendment to the Constitution.

Now, the Trump administration is seeking a new path to get parts of the decree through. The government's acting legal representative, Sarah Harris, is appealing to the Supreme Court to establish that the court rulings only apply to the three states in question, and that the decree should therefore be valid in the remaining states until the federal court rulings are potentially reviewed by a higher authority.
