USA's president Donald Trump refuses again to rule out a third term – despite the law only allowing two.

In January, Trump began his second term in the White House. This means he cannot stand in the next American presidential election in 2028, but despite this, he and his supporters have repeatedly hinted that this may happen.

Recently, red caps with the text "Trump 2028" were seen in pictures taken during a meeting in the Oval Office. On board Air Force One on the way to Japan on Monday, Trump replied vaguely when a reporter asked him if he plans to stand again.

I would love to do it. I have the best numbers ever, he said according to ABC News.

Am I ruling it out? You'll have to say. All I can say is that we have a very, very good group of people, which they don't, he continued, referring to the Democrats.

In response to a follow-up question about other possible Republican candidates in 2028, he mentioned Vice President JD Vance and Foreign Minister Marco Rubio.

The comments on board Air Force One come after Trump's former advisor Steve Bannon last week claimed that "there is a plan" to keep the president in the White House.

He will get a third term. Trump will be president in 2028. People have to start getting used to that idea, said Bannon to The Economist.
