Advanced cruise missiles are one of the most important issues when Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyj and Donald Trump meet at the White House on Friday. After a conversation with the Russian president, Trump seems to be hesitant about sending the highly sought-after cruise missiles to Ukraine.

According to Ukraine, the country needs American Tomahawk robots in the war against Russia, and Donald Trump has previously shown some openness to sending such robots. But after a long phone call between Trump and the Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukraine's chances of getting the weapons may have decreased.

In the conversation, Putin said, among other things, that the situation in the war would not change if the US sent Tomahawks to Ukraine, but that it would "cause significant damage to the relationship between our countries", says Putin's foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov.

After talking to Putin, Trump seems to be toning down the possibilities for Ukraine to get the robots, which have a range of approximately 160 miles.

We need Tomahawks for the USA too, says Trump.

We have many of them, but we need them. I mean, we cannot empty our country.

With robots of the Tomahawk type, Ukraine could strike far into Russian territory and thus reach important military sites, energy facilities, and critical infrastructure.

Trump and Zelenskyj meet at the White House today at 7 pm, Swedish time.

Zelenskyj landed in the US as early as Thursday and then met with representatives of several defense giants, including Raytheon, he writes on X. Raytheon manufactures, among other things, Tomahawk robots.
