The so-called peace council intended to govern the Gaza Strip has been formed, according to US President Donald Trump.

“The board members will be announced shortly,” Trump stated on his Truth Social platform, where he heaped praise on the chosen ones.

A ceasefire has been in place in war-torn Gaza since October 10, according to a brokered peace plan between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas.

According to the plan, a new government for Gaza will take shape under the auspices of the United States. The government will consist of several layers: at the top, a “peace council” chaired by Donald Trump, and below that, a technocratic government.

The US recently announced that phase two of the peace plan has officially begun. This includes the deployment of an international security force in Gaza, the disarmament of Hamas, and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the area.

When US envoy Steven Witkoff made the announcement on Wednesday, he warned Hamas that failure to do so would have “serious consequences.” Israel has warned that a withdrawal is out of the question unless Hamas is disarmed.

However, Israeli forces have advanced their positions outside the agreed buffer zone in Gaza, reports the BBC, which has studied satellite images.
