I would say it's final, but if they call with another offer, and if I like it, then we'll do that, said Trump in connection with a dinner at the White House with Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

On a question about whether the new August 1 deadline is certain, Trump replied:

I would say certain but not 100 percent certain. If they call and say "we want to do it in a different way", we will be open to it. But basically, that's how it is right now.

Up to 40 percent

It's about an extension of the 90-day tariff pause that Trump announced on April 9.

Trump threatened 14 countries with tariffs of up to 40 percent on Monday.

The messages were given in largely identical letters.

"It's a great honor for me to send you this letter", Trump began the letters addressed to the countries' heads of government and published on the president's platform Truth Social.

Among the tariff rates, 25 percent on goods from important trading partners such as Japan and South Korea stand out. In addition, there may be tariffs of 40 percent on goods from Myanmar and Laos, as well as 36 percent for Cambodia and Thailand.

The tariff rates are in line with how it looked in April, but they have been adjusted slightly up or down.

According to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, letters will be sent to more countries in the coming days.

"Great threat"

If the countries respond with increased tariffs on American goods, the US will raise them further.

According to Trump, the US trade deficit is a "great threat" to both the economy and national security.

The US wants to get new trade agreements in place. But so far, Trump's tariff policy has only led to agreements with the United Kingdom and Vietnam, as well as a framework agreement in the trade conflict with China.
