The EU's trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic stated that trade between the EU and the US must "be based on mutual respect, not threats. We stand ready to defend our interests."
The Trump administration imposed 20 percent tariffs on all goods from the EU on April 2, but halved them a week later to 10 percent for 90 days to allow for negotiations.
