The USA's new golden age has just begun, claimed Donald Trump in the first speech to Congress during his term. We have accomplished more in 43 days than most governments do in four years, said the President. He did not comment on the USA's withdrawn support to Ukraine.

The American dream is unstoppable, Trump claimed in front of cheering Republican congressmen who chanted "USA, USA".

Our country is on the threshold of a comeback that the world has never seen before, and perhaps will never see again.

Trump did not deliver any major news during the over one hour and 40-minute long speech, despite the 78-year-old having promised that something "big" was to come.

Details on how the US would withdraw its support to Ukraine were not provided, but Trump claimed that both Russia and Ukraine had stated they were ready to negotiate for peace.

"Common sense"

Trump praised his own decisions on mass deportations, cuts in the government apparatus, and stopped aid to foreign countries.

Over the past six weeks, I have signed nearly 100 executive orders and taken more than 400 executive actions to restore common sense, security, optimism, and wealth across our wonderful country.

While Republicans cheered, several on the Democratic side in the Capitol held up signs with the text "false". The protests became chaotic at times, not least when the Speaker of the House Mike Johnson chose to throw out the Democratic member Al Green.

Trump blamed much, including inflation, on his predecessor Joe Biden.

As you know, we have inherited, from the previous administration, an economic catastrophe and an inflation nightmare.

It was one of several claims that American media, including AP, have proven to be false after the speech.

Trump also claimed, without basis, that the high egg prices in the US are due to the previous government. The egg crisis in the US is mainly due to an outbreak of bird flu that led to the killing of over 40 million animals last year, according to CNN.

War on cartels

The Trump administration will "put an end to the blatant waste of taxpayers' money", he claimed.

For that purpose, I have created the entirely new department for state efficiency, Doge, which you may have heard of, he said and then thanked tech billionaire Elon Musk, who leads the new organization.

Trump also promised to "start a war" against Mexican drug cartels, while admitting that the trade war he started through tariffs would "cause some chaos".

But we're okay with that. It won't be much.

Tariffs are not just about protecting American jobs, but about protecting our country's soul.
