The statement comes after Thunberg earlier on Monday arrived in Greece after being released from Israel, where she and the hundreds of other activists who tried to break the Israeli blockade against Gaza by sea were detained.
It is not the first time the American president has spoken about the Swedish activist. In June, Greta Thunberg and other activists were stopped by Israel in international waters, west of Gaza. They were also taken into Israeli custody and later sent home.
When Trump was asked about this, he called the 22-year-old Swede a "strange" and "young, angry person" – which in turn was responded to by Thunberg.
I think the world needs many more young, angry women, she said.
