Leavitt, who had her second child this spring, will continue as one of his "top outside advisors" and an "influential voice within the Republican Party."
On X, she writes that she has recently "felt in her heart" that she cannot be the mother her children deserve while having such a demanding job with the president.
“And that is why I have finally made the bittersweet decision to leave the White House and begin a new chapter in my life,” she writes.
Leavitt was press secretary for Trump's 2024 presidential campaign and then went on to serve as White House press secretary. It is unclear who will take over.
