”The final decision to cease our military operations will be made later”, writes Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on X.

Trump announced a ceasefire on Truth Social at midnight on Tuesday: ”Congratulations to everyone!”, he wrote.

The ceasefire will be initiated in different stages over the next 24 hours, according to the president. Iran will unilaterally initiate the ceasefire at 06:00 Swedish time. After twelve hours, Israel will initiate its part of the ceasefire and a further twelve hours later – thus after a day – the war will be considered over, according to Trump.

”In the 24th hour, an official end to the twelve-day war will be saluted around the world!”, he writes and adds that each side will remain ”peaceful and respectful” during the implementation of the ceasefire.

Explosions in Tehran

The announcement comes as new explosions are reported in the Iranian capital Tehran during the night, according to AFP.

In Israel, the air raid warning has been activated in several cities and the military has warned of new waves of incoming Iranian missiles.

Abbas Araghchi writes at 02:45 on X that no agreement on a ceasefire is in place ”at this time”.

”But provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people by 04:00 Tehran time at the latest, we have no intention of continuing”, he writes when the clock in Iran has already passed 04:00.

Israel has not confirmed anything. But Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly meeting with his closest ministers, according to Israeli media.

Trump calls it a ”wonderful day for the world” in a phone interview with NBC News.

Many people died and it would only get worse. It would have destroyed the entire Middle East, says Trump.

When asked how long he thinks the ceasefire will last, he replies:

I think the ceasefire is unlimited. It will be forever.

Attack on US base

Qatar is said to have mediated between the countries and the ceasefire is based on an American proposal, according to information in American media.

On Monday evening, Iran carried out an attack on a US military base in Qatar. According to Iran, as many missiles were fired at Qatar as the number of bombs the US used against Iran's nuclear facilities during the night against Sunday.

According to Trump, Iran warned about the attack and no Americans were killed or injured.
