Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu returns to the White House for talks about the Gaza war with the US President Donald Trump.

According to Trump, a second meeting in two days reflects the will to reach a conclusion to the "tragedy" of the Gaza war.

It is a tragedy, and he (Netanyahu) wants to solve it, and I want to solve it, and I think the other side wants to, said Trump to reporters on Tuesday.

During Monday's visit to the White House, Netanyahu expressed his appreciation for the American president by nominating him for the Nobel Peace Prize – however, he gave no indication of his stance on a ceasefire in Gaza.

Since Sunday, talks about a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas have been underway in Doha, the capital of Qatar – which the US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff will join later in the week. Witkoff says he is "hopeful" that Israel and Hamas will agree on a 60-day ceasefire.
