President Donald Trump praises during his Asia trip USA's strong relation with Japan. The country's new prime minister says that she hopes for a new golden era in the alliance with USA, and praises Trump's peace work.

Japan's new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi showered Donald Trump with praise during their meeting in Tokyo on Tuesday. Among other things, attention was drawn to the American president's efforts for a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia and his "unmatched historical achievement" with the Gaza agreement.

It is a great honor to meet you, said Trump and added that he believes Sanae Takaichi will become one of the "best prime ministers".

The conservative China critic Sanae Takaichi, who is the country's first female prime minister, took office last week.

I would like to realize a new golden era for the alliance between Japan and the USA, where both Japan and the USA become stronger and more prosperous, she says.

The countries will – according to an agreement signed to secure the supply of rare earth metals – among other things help each other to achieve security in the supply chains.

During a joint visit to the American battleship USS Washington at the American naval base Yokosuka near the capital, Sanae Takaichi says she is "determined to fundamentally strengthen" Japan's defense capability, due to the fact that the country is facing "unmatched" security risks.

In a joint statement from Takaichi and Trump, she says that Japan is facing a "never before seen serious security situation".
