American and Ukrainian representatives are now meeting in Geneva to discuss the 28-point peace plan for the Ukraine war that the United States has drawn up. The plan has reportedly been described by the US Secretary of State as a "Russian wish list."

The meeting is expected to be attended by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff, according to media reports. The Ukrainian delegation is led by Andriy Yermak, chief of staff to President Volodymyr Zelensky, writes The Kyiv Independent , adding that representatives of the UK, France and Germany will also be in Geneva.

It has not been announced what time the meeting will begin.

Work in progress?

On the agenda is the peace plan for the Ukraine war that Donald Trump's administration has drawn up. It contains 28 points and has been heavily criticized for being too favorable to the attacking power Russia. The plan includes demands that Ukraine cede several regions to Russia and halve its military, as well as that the United States withdraw its military support to the country.

US President Donald Trump has set a deadline of Thursday for Ukraine to respond to the proposal. However, over the weekend he said there was room for negotiations and some possibilities for changes to the draft. This after European leaders, among others, stressed that national borders should not be changed by force.

The president's special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, tells Fox News that the proposal should be seen as "a work in progress."

When the plan became known this week, a pressured Volodymyr Zelensky said that he did not intend to "betray" Ukraine and that there was a risk that his country would have to distance itself from the United States because of Trump's peace plan.

Ukraine may now face a very difficult choice, either to lose its dignity or risk losing an important partner, Zelensky said in a speech to the nation.

Russia's wishes

Over the weekend, three US senators stated that Secretary of State Marco Rubio told them in a phone call that the plan constituted a "Russian wish list."

Rubio denies these allegations.

"The peace proposal has been written by the USA," he writes on X, adding that it is based on views from the Russian side but also the Ukrainian one.
