This is a break from the trend, says Mikaela Zabrodsky, CEO of the Swedish Publishers Association.
According to the Book Sales Statistics for 2025, 24.6 million printed books were sold in Sweden, an increase of 5.7 percent. Printed children's and young adult books benefited from a government subsidy for buying school books, but this is not the only explanation for the rise in physical books, according to Zabrodsky. In physical bookstores, which did not receive any government money, sales increased by 7.3 percent.
This is a statement of strength for the printed book in general, Zabrodsky says.
