The proposal, which the authority is sending for review on Thursday, comes after the number of children and young people diagnosed with ADHD and autism has increased. This has led to a high workload on healthcare, which must issue medical certificates for those with such diagnoses to obtain a driving license, writes the Transport Agency in a press release.
Almost all with the diagnoses, just over 99 percent, pass the medical examination that is required today. It is therefore not considered any motivation for requiring them, according to the Transport Agency, which hopes that the requirement will be abolished at the beginning of next year.
"It will, in other words, be easier for a large group of people," says Josefin Hallenberg, investigator at the Transport Agency, in the press release.
