The police were alerted at 4 pm about an accident where a truck drove into another truck from behind. One person was examined by ambulance personnel on site.
According to the initial information, one of the trucks was transporting hazardous goods, which led to the tunnels being closed as a precautionary measure.
The substance later turned out to be glycol.
According to the information we have received from the Rescue Service, no hazardous release occurred, said the police's press spokesperson Nadya Norton to TT.
One of the drivers is suspected of being under the influence and has been taken in for sampling. An investigation into drunk driving, bodily harm, and reckless driving has been initiated.
By 6 pm, traffic was able to start flowing again.
