The weather agency SMHI launches the new website Climate Situation, with information texts, facts and clips about climate change.
"The goal is to increase understanding in society about the critical situation we are in, to mitigate the effects of climate change with joint forces", says Pontus Törnwall, product manager for climate information at SMHI, in a press release.
The website has been created with funding and support from the EU's climate service Copernicus.
One of the news is that it is possible to see how warm it is on Earth more or less in real-time, through Copernicus climate analysis system.
The data lags a bit, but it is possible to see the daily average temperature on all days from 1940 and up to yesterday, and compare it with the pre-industrial average temperature. On May 25 this year, the temperature was 16.03 degrees, compared to the years 1850-1900 with an average for the day of 14.66 degrees.
SMHI's experts also share their knowledge in various clips.
"We know that many want to understand what is happening and why. Therefore, we have developed material that not only shows how the situation looks, but also explains the mechanisms behind", says Törnwall.
