Sara Hector just missed the podium when the Alpine World Cup resumed with a giant slalom on Friday in Italian Sestriere. Hector had a striking position after the first run, as fourth and with only two tenths up to the podium places.
But the Swedish alpine star, who came to the competition with a few sick days behind her, could not take advantage of the situation. She finished fifth, 40 hundredths behind Norwegian Thea Louise Stjernesund who became third.
Hector has delivered brilliant results during the winter, especially in the giant slalom, her specialty, but the World Championship was a disappointment. There, the Swedish gold favorite had to settle for a sixth place.
Friday's giant slalom was won by Federica Brignone, the Italian who also took the World Championship gold in the discipline. Second was Alice Robinson, New Zealand.
