The 59-year-old Australian took over Tottenham in the summer of 2023 after previously training Scottish Celtic. After a cannon start to the 2023–2024 season – the team took 26 of 30 possible points – Tottenham fell to a fifth place and missed a Champions League spot.
The consolation prize was playing in the Europa League and there the team recently won the final in Spanish Bilbao after a 1–0 victory over Premier League competitor Manchester United.
The league season was however disappointing. The team's 17th place is one of the London club's worst placings in history in the English top league and on Friday Tottenham confirmed on its website that Postecoglou will be fired.
”We are incredibly grateful to Ange and what he has contributed during his two years in the club. Ange will always be remembered as the third coach in our history to win a European title”, the club writes and continues:
”The board has however made a unanimous decision that it is in the club's best interest that a change occurs”.
No replacement is presented.
