Toronto hadn't won a game since early February. It had been eight straight losses and its playoff chances were slipping further and further away.
Three minutes into the second period of the home game against Leo Carlson's Anaheim, it looked like it would be more of the same. Pavel Mintjukov had just made it 3-1 and Anaheim led by a wide margin in shots.
But a cat has nine lives, and that seems to be the case with Toronto as well. Midway through the second period, Auston Matthews, assisted by Bo Groulx and William Nylander, cut Anaheim's lead to 3-2.
The Swedish star then made sure to complete the turnaround himself. Half a minute into the third period, he poked in a 4–3 power-play goal.
The final score was ultimately 6–4 to Toronto.
