The Christian-democratic, conservative EPP is pushing to copy Ireland's so-called "Coco's Law" at the EU level.
The law is named after a young woman who took her own life after being bullied online for years.
"Social media platforms are not taking enough responsibility. In Ireland, they have created legislation that is effective against cyberbullying, and I think we should do this at the European level," says Swedish MEP Tomas Tobé (M).
The EPP hopes to gain support from at least the social-democratic S&D and liberal RE to demand that the European Commission produce a legislative proposal.
